Dhudkunda is a name of lake, which is situated at Dhudkunda municipality 1 taksindu in solukhumbhu district. The altitude from sea level is 4593 meter high. The simple translation of dudkunda is a lake of milk or a milky lake. This name came from the local legendry, they said that, a person who used to graze yak/ nak the (Himalayan cows) found that one of his cows always goes to a special stone and drop her milk there, later he found a lake full of milk and then the place named Dhudkunda. This place is one of the very religious destinations for the local people, who belief that there was the existence of god shiva and guru renponchhe. There is a big religious day in Hindu calendar which is janai purnima, means day of full moon. In this day many Hindu and Buddhist people come and worship to their Gods.
These days Dhudkunda is also becoming a famous destination for trekking. The beautiful lake Dhudkunda and other mini lakes in the same way the surrounding of glaciers and big mountains like Mt. Numbur (6959m.) Mt. khatang(6853m.) Mt. karyolung(6511m) are the attractions for the tourists. Day 2: Visit Basantapur Durbar Square and Swayambhunath Stupa, both UNESCO World Heritage sites. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 3: Morning departure from Kathmandu (1,300m) to Patle (2,840m) in a 4×4 Jeep. 8-hour drive (240km). Overnight in a lodge.
Day 4: Trek from Patle to Jhapre (2,820m) – 5 to 6 hours of trekking with an elevation gain/loss of +100m / -100m. Overnight in a lodge.
Day 5: Trek from Jhapre to Pikey Peak Base Camp (3,640m) – 6 to 7 hours of trekking, elevation gain/loss +820m / -50m. Overnight in a lodge.
Day 6: Early morning ascent to Pikey Peak (4,065m) to admire a magnificent panoramic view of the Everest Himalayan range, including Mt. Everest (8,848.86m), Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Numbur, and Gaurishankar. Enjoy a breathtaking sunrise view, then descend to the lodge and continue the trek to Serlo monastery (2700m) – 7 hours of trekking, +425m / -515m. Overnight in a monastery.
Day 7: Trek from Serlo Monastery to Junbesi (2,700m) and visit Thuptenchholing Monastery – 5 hours of trekking, +250m / -300m. Overnight in a lodge.
Day 8: Trek from Junbesi to Taksindu (2,960m) – 6 hours of trekking, +500m / -200m. Overnight in a lodge.
Day 9: Trek from Taksindu to Sasurabeni (4,000m) – 7 hours of trekking, +450m / -50m. Overnight in a lodge.
Day 10: Early morning hike to the sacred Dudh Kunda Lake (4,560m) – Enjoy stunning views of Numbur, Karelung, and Khatang peaks. Then, descend back to KamoDhada – 8 hours of trekking, +660m / -960m. Overnight in a lodge.
Day 11: Trek from KamoDhada to Horsinga (2,350m) – 7 hours of trekking, +100m / -1,250m. Overnight at a local homestay.
Day 12: Sunrise view at Horsinga with a panoramic view of Thamserku, Kangtega, and Kusum Kangkaru. In the afternoon, visit Shree Taksindu Higher Secondary School – 4 hours of activities. Overnight at a local homestay.
Day 13: Trek from Horsinga to Taksindu La (2,960m) – 5 hours of trekking, +620m / -20m. Overnight in a lodge.
Day 14: Trek from Taksindu to Phaplu (2,460m) via Kemje La and Ratnange – 6 hours of trekking, +200m / -500m. Overnight in a lodge.
Day 15: Flight from Phaplu to Kathmandu (30 minutes). Overnight at the hotel.
Day 16: Cultural tour of Patan Durbar Square and Boudhanath Stupa (both UNESCO World Heritage sites). Overnight at the hotel.
Day 17: Cultural tour of Pashupatinath Temple and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Nepali dinner at Bhojan Bhumi Restaurant. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 18: Departure – Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
